JOINING UP - ADULT INSTRUCTORS

Opportunities currently exist in Surrey ACF Band and Corps of Drums for dedicated and responsible adult instructors and civilian assistants up to the age of 50 years.

As an adult instructor in the Surrey ACF Band or Corps of Drums, your major responsibilities will be to attend at band practice one night per week and undertake training as laid down by the Director of Music or unit commander.

In addition to weekly band practice, you would be required to attend  at public events, concerts, and other music related activities such as the annual band camp and music workshops etc. organised by the Regular Army.

As a new band instructor with no previous military experience you will be expected to learn the rudiments of military skills such as drill and turn-out, map reading and weapon training. However, your main activity will be focussed on music.

Each year Surrey ACF organises an annual camp somewhere in the UK. The Band and Corps of Drums attends camp and provides musical background for social and ceremonial activities as well as participating in military and adventure training activities.

Adult band Instructors attend a basic Initial Training Course within the first 18 months of their appointment. This is then followed up by two other courses held at the Cadet Training Centre, Frimley Park or at military music establishments.

There is no such thing as a typical adult officer or instructor. Adult leaders in the ACF come from all walks of life and each brings with them enthusiasm, energy, leadership and the will to motivate young people to achieve their goals. All we ask, for the Band and Corps of Drums, is that you have expertise in playing a musical instrument and are willing to pass on your skills through regular contact with young people.

Surprisingly, It doesn't cost you a penny to be involved. Adult instructors are paid for up to 20 training days per year as well as being reimbursed travel costs to and from their detachment locations.

Further details will be provided when you join. All your uniform and equipment  will be loaned to you.

So, the only thing it will really cost you is time - but the rewards are plenty!
